Washington, DC is a city of contrasts: on the one hand shaped by its history as the seat of power, on the other with a lively heart beating in its streets. The capital of diversity is getting ready for WorldPride 2025.

Between the venerable monuments, a celebration of diversity, creativity and freedom unfolds. Washington, DC is a place where the community is welcome and can flourish. The Washington Monument towers into the sky like a guardian and is reflected in the Reflecting Pool — in this place where power and history meet, a sense of contemplation hangs in the air.

Jogging, culture and culinary experiences

Washington D.C.

For fitness fans, Washington, DC offers a fantastic opportunity to explore the city on the move. “I often start my day with a morning run through the National Mall. I pass impressive monuments such as the Lincoln Memorial and the Capitol – the perfect start to the day,” says Ryan Bos, Executive Director of Capital Pride. For nature lovers, Rock Creek Park is a must, where you can jog or hike along picturesque trails by the Potomac River.

After your workout, reward yourself at one of the cosy restaurants in trendy Dupont Circle or along 17th Street, known for its LGBTQ+-friendly bar scene. A must for the perfect Sunday is a long brunch in one of the charming cafés around 14th Street. “One of my favourites is Annie’s Paramount Steakhouse – a real classic.”

Of course, a cultural detour is a must too: a visit to one of the many free museums – such as the National Museum of American History – or an evening show at the National Theater. Sunday then belongs entirely to “Sunday Funday”, ideally with a visit to the lively Wharf district or shopping in Georgetown.

The highlights of WorldPride 2025

Washington D.C.

In 2025, Washington, DC celebrates the 50th anniversary of its Pride and hosts WorldPride. The metropolis is transformed into a colourful centre of international LGBTQ+ celebrations. The varied programme includes music and film festivals and, of course, the big parades along the National Mall and Embassy Row. The opening concert, by the way, will be performed by the great Shakira!

Ryan Bos stresses that this WorldPride celebrates not only the community of the city and the USA but also puts a focus on global LGBTQ+ issues: “It is a time when we honour our rights and successes, but also address the often problematic challenges worldwide.” Trans Pride takes place on 17 May, WorldPride between 23 May and 8 June 2025, with the big parade on 7 June.
