Welcome to the island of contrasts. Taiwan, a hidden treasure in the heart of East Asia, awaits you with a fascinating mix of tradition and modernity. From the bustling streets of Taipei to the idyllic mountain landscapes – Taiwan will enchant your senses.

Off to Taipei

Every journey begins in the capital, Taipei. We start our voyage of discovery at Longshan Temple, an oasis of calm amid the hustle and bustle of the city. The ornate carvings and the scent of incense create a unique atmosphere. Don’t miss the early morning, when the locals offer their prayers – a touching glimpse into the spiritual side of the city.

Taipeh & Taiwan

To get an overview of this vibrant city, we visit its landmark, the 508-metre Taipei 101, and enjoy an impressive panoramic view. For an unforgettable experience: grab your running shoes and climb Xiangshan (Elephant Mountain) – the view at sunset is simply breathtaking.

For art lovers, the Huashan 1914 Creative Park is a paradise. This converted factory offers space for contemporary art exhibitions, creative markets and cosy cafés.

Taipeh & Taiwan

In the evening, we dive into the world of Taiwanese street food at the famous night markets. Shilin Night Market is an absolute must – be sure to try the crispy Ah-Zong Mianxian (rice noodles) and the spicy gua bao (pork belly buns). From hearty street dishes such as the famous xiao long bao to delicate traditional teas such as oolong – Taiwan’s culinary delights are as varied as the country itself.

The most gay-friendly place in Asia

Taipeh & Taiwan

Taiwan is the most gay-friendly place in Asia and still something of an insider tip. A milestone for freedom and acceptance was reached when, in 2019, Taiwan became the first Asian country to introduce same-sex marriage. This historic decision marked not only progress but also laid the foundation for gradual equality.

Taiwan Pride is not only a meeting point for the LGBTQ+ community but also a powerful platform for activism and education. Shaped by openness and a progressive legal framework, Taiwan has become a refuge where people can live authentically – a place of freedom and love.

At the changing of the guard at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial, upright men in uniform put on a spectacular show – in the face of the threats from Beijing, they symbolise the island’s will to resist. Our guide Boh explains Taiwan to us, with its fascinating rituals and cultural traditions. Info: taiwantourismus.de
